West Yorkshire AAA Screening programme
An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the chest and tummy.
Kirkheaton Community Centre would like to invite any men sixty and above to an AAA information session on Tues 25th Sept at 7pm.
Men aged 65 and over are most at risk of AAAs which are symptom free until they rupture at which point they become a medical emergency and can, and usually do, prove fatal .
The free NHS screening programme aims to find them earlier so they can be treated and repaired. The programme is similar to breast and bowel cancer screening.
All men will be invited in their sixty fifth year to the screening and anyone already over 65yrs can self refer to the programme.
