Mark Flynn, the official photographer for the Big Picnic received this letter of thanks from Buckingham Palace after sending the Queen a copy of the DVD.

Just spent a happy half hour watching the Big Picnic DVD. Magic! Despite the weather everyone seems to have had a great time. I was stuck on a stall freezing so didn’t see all what had been going on so it was great to see so many people entering into the spirit of it. The shots of children playing games especially the little girls doing the tug of war, are alone worth the price of the DVD.
Well done Mark – on capturing the essence of the day!

In spite of the heavy rain, hundreds of Yettoners came out to be part of one of the largest community events held in the village for a number of years. The Jubilee Queen and her attendants braved the cold and wet weather to head the parade around the village and then everyone made their way to the cricket field where the Mayor of Kirklees Cllr David Ridgeway opened the proceedings.
Although some of the attractions had to be cancelled, in true British style, many went ahead. The belly dancers ‘strutted their stuff’, the jazz band played in the club house and children enjoyed the field games organised by Stuart Crank from the Bread Basket and Gabrielle Bassett.
Local resident Freda Trigg [see picture below] said it was great to see so many people braving the appalling weather to support the event.
A big thank you is in order to the Big Picnic team who has spent a lot of their time over months organising the event, and all the volunteers, stall holders, supporters and members of the public who came to the event (in spite of the rain) on the day.

An open letter to groups and businesses in the village
Dear Group Leaders or Local Business Proprietors
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration i
Including
The Big Picnic & Kirkheaton Guide & Scout Gala on 3 June 2012
This year it is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and in Kirkheaton we are celebrating this by holding The Big Picnic. As you are aware the Guide and Scout Organisation hold an annual Gala. This year we thought it made sense to incorporate this event with The Big Picnic, a group formed from the Kirkheaton Network to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
We are planning to have a Parade, stalls, live entertainment, Talent Show games, refreshments, a Souvenir Programme and lots, lots more.
As local organisations we would like to invite you to have a stall at the above event, which for this year will be held at The Cricket Field, Bankfield Lane, Kirkheaton HD5 OJW. Priority has been given to local groups so early return of the Forms would be appreciated.
In anticipation that you may wish to be a part of this event, I enclose two documents – the Application Form and Terms and Conditions. Please print, complete and return the forms as directed.
Specific themes for stalls have already been identified (see terms and conditions) so please try to select something which compliments, rather than conflicts with the Team’s plans.
Kind Regards Lorna Idle (on behalf of The Big Picnic Team)
