Kirkheaton presents quite a challenge for safe crossings, due to all the bends and areas with no footpaths. The Transport group is working on this, but it would be very useful to have specific ideas from people who would use safe crossing areas – especially children and the elderly – so that we can make well-thought-out suggestions to our local councillors when we meet them. Please get in touch with your ideas.

I also walk up and down Lascelles Hall Rd to visit the Beaumont Arms (Kirkstile) and often have to avoid the traffic which is driven on the pavement, recently a car sounded the horn for me to move to allow him continue on the pavement, also the parking by the cottages near the junction of Lascelles Hall Rd and Wakefield is often a continuous line of parked vehicles with no space to allow two vehicles to pass and sometimes means one vehicle reversing 40 to 50 metres

Also entering Wakefield Rd from Lascelles Hall Rd is often dangerous as the visibility of traffic traveling from Wakefield Rd is not visible because of parked cars. This junction was changed a few years ago with the pedestrian crossing removed, the road markings changed but more important the marking for the parking extended further towards Lascelles Hall Rd therefore when vehicles are parked this obstructs the sight of traffic traveling from the Waterloo direction. Following this change I complained to Kirklees who informed me that “they had to consider the residents in that area had somewhere to park” several accidents have since happened at this junction

I totally agree. I live on Town road which does have speed bumps. I have 1 right outside my house but can say they do nothing to slow traffic. The speeds at which some cars and vans drive up and down is ridiculous!!! You can hear them on a night screeching brakes to slow down at the bottom of the hill. Some drive at up to 60mph over the bumps and it needs to stopI have 2 young children aswell.

I completely agree that we have a need for improved traffic safety in the village. The Yetton Together Transport group is working on this at the moment – we have made a link with ‘Twenty’s Plenty’ , and we are putting together a wide-ranging Traffic safety plan , including safer crossings, speed signs etc. We very much welcome comments and ideas from everyone in the Yetton Together area – if you have a good idea please share it. Or , better still, join us so that we can improve safety for everyone.

Couldn’t disagree with Amy Chappel’s comments more.

For a first event, staffed entirely by volunteers, I thought the Cafe was superb and I hope that the residents of Kirkheaton continue to support it – it was lovely to see so many friendly faces dotted around…even the ‘unwanted’ old ones

I really can’t see how the pricing can be any more attractive – perhaps you could bring your own cup and they may give you a discount or if you offer to wash up they may go halves with you on a bun.

Even a pop-up cafe has to be able to pay its way and will have substantial running costs – there isn’t much profit in a £1 cuppa!

I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy your experience at the cafe. As you can appreciate it was the first weekend of opening and was a learning curve for us all. Throughout the weekend we had a wide range of people visiting the cafe from Mums with young children to pensioners. We had some great feed back from young and old.
Naturally there was a number of members of YT there to support this community project and iron out any unforeseen issues. But mainly the people waiting on and in the kitchen were non member volunteers who just want to see the cafe a success. With regard to the costs we thought hard about making sure the drinks etc were affordable for all and feel that £1 for a cup of coffee and 30 p for a pack of biscuits is reasonable.
We are hoping to attract all members of the community.
We welcome your feedback [that's why we have comment forms to fill in during the sessions] and do hope that you will give us another try sometime.

Well I visited the pop up cafe and found it to be very set up with people from yetton together making up numbers * the pricing was not for the older people (but i have heard thats not what this cafe wants) so as you can guess from my comments I will not be comming back and I bet you dont add this to your satistics

We have made contact with the gas company – they said they have already contacted you about the damage to your car – would you please confirm this?

Yetton Together Transport group is to publish details of future planned works in Kirkheaton on the Yetton Together Website, as far in advance as we can, so that residents can be forewarned.

We will also be posting a list of established rules which the utility companies who dig up roads are supposed be following – e.g with regard to smoking on site, placement of traffic lights etc. It would be helpful if residents could be vigilant about checking that these rules are being followed, so that we can challenge the utility company with proper evidence, should we need to.

Has the problem with the manhole cover down Stafford Hill Lane been reported.? This blows whenever there is a lot of rain (at least 3 times this year) – the culvert must be partly blocked.

What about finding out if there is a local Yettoner who does sculptures and would be happy to do a piece of work ?? A budding Henry Moore . One of my daughters friends at Kirkheaton has a friend who’s sister is at the royal school of art , I will ask her to ask if she is interested.
