Volunteers meeting
On the 26th September 2011 a meeting was held for all the people who, through the village questionnaire, expressed an interest in volunteering in some aspect of the community
[Those who gave us their contact details were personally invited]
The meeting started with a brief introduction to the village plan and how Yetton Together came about. Then members of the steering committee talked about the community plan issues highlighted by the questionnaire that they are hoping to tackle with help from other residents.
Working parties are being formed to guide us through the setting up, and then implementation of the community plan.
They are:
- Environment – Trish Mellor
- Community Café – Bev Burns
- Traffic & Transport – Helen Aust
- Community Activities/Amenities – Theresa Wilby-Hood
- Good neighbourhood scheme – Sheila Firth
- Youth & Children’s Facilities – Eric Hutchinson & Chris Jones
- Energy & Food – Mike Firth & Keith Durkin
- Community Safety – incl Neighbourhood Watch – Sue Bowyer
Initial meetings have been set up. BUT – If you were unable to attend the meeting or were unaware of it it’s not too late to join in.[Many people expressed an interest on the questionnaire but didn’t supply us with contact details!] We would welcome anyone willing to help in writing up our action plans or helping us to implement them.

How it all started
On the 6th July 2010 around 70 people attended the launch of a Community Plan for Kirkheaton. The idea was given an overwhelmingly positive response and a good proportion of those there immediately volunteered to take part in the work to produce it. The work to produce the report lasted over 18 months, with a questionnaire and a series of events to allow those who live, work or are members of organisations in and around the village to become involved. There was also a wide consultations with Kirklees and Kirkburton Parish Council, local businesses and other service providers.
Steering committee formed
After the successful launch of the idea of the village plan about 15 people came forward to express their interest in being on a committee to help move the idea into reality.[There were many other people who expressed an interest in helping in other ways and they will be contacted in the future] A meeting was held in the Parish Centre on 15th July 2010 to discuss how to move forward. Discussions centred around practicalities eg how to reach all members of the community to find out their views, What actually areas do we include and what to call ourselves! A further meeting was held on Tuesday 17th August when Amanda Kent from Rural Action Yorkshire [RAY] attended.
