Kirkburton Parish Council Aims to Reduce Dog Fouling with “Bag It and Bin It” Campaign

In response to many concerns expressed by residents, members of Kirkburton Parish Council have recently created a new “Bag It and Bin It” Working Party with the aim of reducing the increasing amount of dog fouling in the Parish. As well as being extremely unpleasant and unsightly, dog fouling can have serious health issues, especially to children.
The Working Party plans to provide dispensers in all the villages, specifically located where there is a problem. We are working with the Dog Warden to identify the worst areas and Councillors are currently consulting residents on this. If you have a view where a dispenser would be useful, please do let us know. Dog waste bags and dispensers will be situated in the worst areas and leaflets and posters will exhort people to behave responsibly.
The Working Party also aims to teach the younger generation that if you have a dog, you have a responsibility to look after it properly and clear up the mess. To try to do this we will be running a competition for local schools for pupils to design a poster to get the “Bag It and Bin It” message across.
At the last Parish Council meeting, members gave full support to Kirklees’ plans to introduce Dog Control Orders and issue penalty notices against offenders who allow their dogs to foul, to designate certain areas dog-free zones and to compel owners to keep their dogs on a lead in specified areas.
The Council wishes to make it clear that the “Bag It and Bin It” campaign is not a vendetta against dogs, their owners or animal lovers but simply wants dog owners to behave responsibly.

The message is very clear:   Bag It and Bin It!
