Dof E logoThe DofE Award Scheme is open to young people aged between 14 and 24. Currently over 275,000 young people take part with over 83,000 awards achieved.

It is run throughout Kirklees at a variety of locations through schools, the Scouting Organisation and Community Groups. It can also be accessed through four Open Award Centres at Almondbury, Batley, Holmfirth and Mirfield. There are 3 levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold. You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of 4 sections (5 if going for Gold) AND THE BEST BIT – YOU CHOOSE WHAT TO DO, from helping people/community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and activities to get you buzzing.

Mirfield Open Award Centre has over 80 young people attending on a Monday evening and is bursting at the seams. But there is still some availability on Wednesday evenings at the Almondbury Open Award Centre where currently 28 young people from our area participate.

So if you are interested in becoming part of this scheme now or in the future, please contact Denise Bedford, the DofE’s Award Manager at denise.bedford@kirklees.gov.uk for further information.or visit DofE.org
